Run for College Council!

A message from the Legislative Committee of the College Council:            

May is College Council election season at KCC. KCC will be holding elections for four (4) delegates at large, two (2) part time College Council seats, three (3) HEO and CLT seats, and two (2) support staff seats. The first nominations and elections will be for 2 HEO and CLT seats and 2 Support Staff seats. Nominations for these seats will be on May 7-8 and the elections will be held May 13-14. Nominations for Delegates-at-Large and the Part Time Faculty seats will be on May 15-16 and the election will be held on May 22-23. The Committee will send separate emails for each nomination and election to their respective eligible voters.  Please consider running for one of these important positions. You will be making a real contribution to shared governance at the college and the university. If you have any questions, please email the Legislative Committee at [email protected]

Here is a more in-depth look at the seats available in the upcoming College Council elections:

The elections for four (4) delegates at large, 

Paul Ricciardi, Michael Spear, Dorina Tila,  Gordon Alley-Young, Dominic Wetzel, Amanda Kalin’s terms are expiring. Due to the decrease in the number of departments from 16 to 14, four seats are now available.

Two (2) part time College Council seats, Ashiza Shah’s term is expiring, the other seat is new.

Three (3) HEO and CLT seats, are all new.

 and two (2) support staff seats, one is new and one is unfilled.

C317 Literature Committee Meeting: Thursday 8 May 2025 3:00-4:30

                The Literature Committee will meet on Thursday 8 May 2025 from 3:00-4:30 in C317. Topics include assessment and program learning outcomes, program promotion, a reading series, and syllabus sharing.

Multimedia Identity Work and Building Silent Conversations in The Classroom: 12 May 2025 10:00-11:30 AM U220

                We want to share our upcoming presentation with you highlighting student identity work and research, titled Multimedia Identity Work and Building Silent Conversations in The Classroom. 

Imagine building meaningful community among students, faculty and staff that begins with student voice, creating a supportive environment for identity exploration fosters community and collaboration among students. The ultimate aim of our work in the classroom is for students to recognize their value within the academic community through sharing their life experiences and resiliency.

                At our presentation Professor Joanna Agnello, Professor Tisha Ulmer and Professor Joseph Verdino will highlight our research, and our student presenters will share their Multimedia Identity presentations using a small group workshop model.  Please join us and we encourage you to bring your classes.

KCC Commencement: Wednesday 18 June 2025 10 AM at the Coney Island Amphitheatre

                John Keller is the English department’s official commencement liaison, and Kingsborough Community College is gearing up for an exciting 60th AnniversaryGraduation Ceremony to be held this year at the Coney Island Amphitheatre on June 18th @ 10 AM. In the next few weeks, John will send out an RSVP form that faculty will be required to fill out in order to enter the venue.

           The next newsletter will come out on Monday 12 May 2025. Send items to be included by Friday 9 May 2025 to Jane Weiss at [email protected]. Please keep items brief (preferably 100 or fewer words). Longer items will be abridged. Many faculty members would like to learn more about colleagues’ areas of scholarship, so if you would like to share what you’re working on, the Newsletter will welcome descriptions of your research and recent or upcoming presentations, publications, performances, and creative achievements of all kinds.
