CREATIVE WRITING & LITERARY STUDIES Within the department of English, Liberal Arts disciplinary area directors provide leadership and vision for the disciplinary areas of Literary Studies and Creative Writing. Each L.A. area director receives 4 credits of released time per year (2 per semester) to support their role. Duties: Consulting with the dept chairperson on selections of courses to run in upcoming semesters Consulting with the dept chairperson on instructor assignments for courses in concentrations connected to the disciplinary area Working closely and actively with department chairperson and department curriculum committee on various curricular duties, such as: revising courses (including Pathways submissions, updated course titles, updated course descriptions, etc), proposing new courses, proposing changes to L.A. concentrations, etc. Serving on the Liberal Arts steering committee Working with department and curriculum committee chairpersons to maintain shared, accurate, and current records of course and program materials Guiding the work of the departmental area committee to help support the health and success of the courses in the area and L.A. concentration(s) connected to the disciplinary area Being present at all new admitted student events to inspire student interest in the concentration and area courses Continually updating informational, marketing, and PR materials and efforts to keep students informed and to inspire student interest in the program Collaborating with department assessment liaisons when courses in the area are scheduled for assessment Organizing PD sessions and opportunities appropriate to concentration/area Potentially overseeing future program assessment processes for L.A. concentrations
