  1. Greetings and Announcements:
The meeting opened at 2pm with a recognition that our small turnout meant it was unlikely
we would or should make a final decision concerning the proposed governance structure,
election cycle, and procedures. We discussed the shrinking attendance in CWC meetings
at the same time that the program has made strong progress in becoming a Liberal Arts
concentration, with attendant requirements for the program leadership and work for the
committee. The question was raised of whether the formal sign-up period for faculty to
commit to committee work was changing the nature of CWC participation, and if so what
we could do to regain some of our earlier momentum. This question will be revisited in our
    first fall 2025 meeting.
  2. Updates on Creative Writing Club (Andie Sheridan)
Andie Sheridan presented an overview of the work accomplished this term in re-starting
the Creative Writing Club, with strong initiative by a core group of students under Andie’s
leadership as faculty advisor. The club met several times and the required elections and
related paperwork for the Office of Student Life were completed. Most or all of the core
group working to re-start the club will return in the fall 2025 semester, with strong promise
to continue the growth begun over the spring term. Goals for the upcoming academic year
include expansion of membership and on-campus, student-led activities, including an
    open mic event.
  3. Updates on Liberal Arts Concentration launch
Eben presented briefly on the current status of work towards the official launch of the
Liberal Arts concentration in the fall. Liberal Arts chair Jacob Segal has held regular
meetings with LA concentration directors throughout the term, and we will continue to
liaise with advisement to promote the concentration. Rob Cowan as director of the
Literature concentration and Eben as CW concentration director are continuing to work
with the college design team to develop publicity and outreach materials for the students.
Eben has also proposed a CW-themed interactive campus map project with QR codes that
students can use at various marked points around the campus to access short works of
literature or art. This project will be represented in the display case outside the English
Department office as well as elsewhere on campus.
  4. Governance Proposal and Vote
As previously discussed, the proposed governance procedures vote will take place at our
first fall 2025 meeting. A revised proposal, reflecting updated information, will be
distributed with these minutes for discussion and possible further revision for that fall
    meeting.
  5. Fall Events Proposals
CWC faculty are strongly encouraged to begin discussing and/or organizing proposals for
fall reading or CW-related events. Rob Cowan has begun organizing a 2025-26 campus visit
by a local playwright, sponsored by the Literature disciplinary area, so we should consider
whether a separate CW reading or campus visit would be viable or desirable.
  6. Closing
The meeting adjourned promptly at 3pm.
