This is a summary of the activities and resources developed by the ad hoc committee on A.I. Our work has focused on navigating the realities of generative A.I. and its impact on higher education and our world. AI Guide: Tony Iantosca and Rachel Ihara collaborated (with some input from me and suggestions from the department) to create a resource for the department: AI Guide Faculty Presentations/Discussions/Resources: During our committee meetings, faculty shared classroom strategies they have used or explored to address the impact of this emerging technology. Monica Filimon shared her thoughts and experiences with A.I. in a presentation and shared several resources: Filimon Resources James Pacello shared a resource detailing my current explorations into A.I., including an ENG24 assignment that integrates A.I. into a portion of the writing process and asks students to critically reflect on the experience: Pacello Resources Matthew Gartner guided faculty members through a workshop, raising awareness of the various ways students might be using A.I. technology to complete their coursework, including for writing their reflective, analytical, or creative assignments and dictating ideas to the technology using A.I.’s increasingly sophisticated and interactive voice features.
