December 12, 2023 Curriculum Committee Minutes

2:30-4pm, C309A

In attendance: Robert Cowan, Annie Del Principe, Matthew Gartner, Sara Rutkowski, Carl
Schlachte

I. Election of a curriculum committee chairperson

Sara Rutkowski was elected, unopposed and unanimously, for the position of chairperson
of the curriculum committee.

II. Quick discussion of how this committee should/might work

The curriculum committee can both receive and review proposals submitted by faculty
members and department committees (i.e. the literature committee and the creative
writing committee) and can also make suggestions to the department regarding the course
and program proposals the department should consider adding.

The curriculum committee will meet roughly 3 times a semester to keep its work on track
and to continue work on curricular matters.

III. Stuff on deck already for winter/spring 2024

● Several literature electives are in the process of minor title updates and revisions
to course descriptions.
● Faculty are working on Pathways proposals for a couple of existing courses.
● There are a couple of new course proposals for the committee to review:
Caribbean literature and a Graphic Novel course
● Revisions to English 24 CLOs, sample syllabus, and course descriptions will be
submitted by the CRC
● Annie will have meetings in January with chairpersons at Brooklyn and Medgar to
resolve odd transfer situations between some of our electives and courses that
count toward their majors.

IV. The curriculum committee agreed to meet on February 28, 2024 via Zoom to review and
vote on all curricular submissions that are ready for submission by that point. Spring 2024
curricular submissions must be sent to the college curriculum committee by March 1,
2024.
